President's Message

Welcome to the Monroe College King Graduate School for Urban Studies and Applied Research!

Monroe College enjoys a long and rich history of providing high quality education that leads to promising careers. Beginning in 1933 in four small classrooms with seven students in the midst of the Great Depression, Monroe began its first business program. The seven young women educated at Monroe would go on to obtain good jobs and help support their families despite hard economic times.

Monroe has since grown to an institution with an annual enrollment of more than 7,000 students from all over the world seeking higher education that prepares them for a complex, global economy. Building on its proud history, the College remains true to its mission and core values and has added over time a range of associate, baccalaureate and, most recently, master's degrees housed in the College's King Graduate School (KGS).

The KGS curriculum features project-based and community-centered learning and research. It is immediately applicable in a wide range of workplaces and community settings. We emphasize the urban context, but our graduates are valuable in any setting that requires the leadership and management skills to discover new opportunities for growth and change. Our graduates report their educational experience at KGS has transformed them, making them better prepared to face the future, apply solutions, and pursue opportunities. Most importantly, KGS graduates are caring, competent professionals who have a positive impact on their workplaces and communities.

In all, the King Graduate School for Urban Studies and Applied Research, with its commitment to fostering academic success and career advancement, is the perfect place for students to reach their next professional milestone.
